What scheduling apps don't tell you about your team
Short answer: Homebase and 7shifts users already get schedules, time clocks, messaging and often payroll. What those scheduling apps do not tell you about your team is how coworkers experience working with each person on the shifts you miss. Keep your scheduler. Add a team-quality view only if you need that gap filled.
What scheduling apps are genuinely good at
Checked on Homebase and 7shifts pages on November 6, 2026:
- Homebase: scheduling, time tracking, team messaging, hiring and HR on higher plans, payroll as an add-on ($49 per month plus $6 per employee paid). Basic is free for one location up to 10 employees; Essentials is $30 per location per month with unlimited employees on paid plans.
- 7shifts: restaurant scheduling, team communication, time tracking, labor tools and payroll as an add-on. Comp is free for one location up to 15 employees. Engage adds attendance trends, post-shift surveys and shout-outs, and needs 7punches or a supported POS labor integration.
If your pain is "who works Saturday?" or "who punched late?", these tools are the right category. For alternatives that stay in scheduling, see 7shifts alternatives and Homebase alternatives.
What the schedule still cannot show
A full schedule and clean timesheets can hide problems you only feel when you walk in:
- Who carries the rush when you are off, and who coasts.
- Who coworkers trust on a tough close, beyond who the manager likes.
- Why a "reliable" name on the roster keeps losing good people around them.
- Whether a shift lead is respected by the crew, or only by the person who promoted them.
Clocks record presence. Cameras record motion. Neither records how the team experienced the shift.
Where 7shifts Engage and Homebase notes help, and where they stop
7shifts Engage is useful when you want attendance patterns, post-shift survey scores and public shout-outs inside the same app you already schedule in. It is better when managers should coach from lates, no-shows and shift feedback. It is not a substitute for anonymous coworker ratings, and visibility follows manager permissions.
Homebase Plus and higher add performance notes, milestone celebrations and attendance reporting. Those help a manager keep a file. They still start from the manager's view, not from every coworker who shared the shift.
Better for scheduling + payroll: Homebase or 7shifts (or Deputy, Sling, When I Work, Connecteam). Better for anonymous coworker view of work quality: a peer evaluation app such as Wevree, used alongside the scheduler you already trust.
How Wevree sits next to Homebase or 7shifts
- Staff keep using Homebase or 7shifts for schedules, swaps and punches.
- On a separate Round every week, or on whatever schedule you choose, coworkers rate each other from 1 to 10 on Topics you pick.
- Nobody, including you, sees who gave which score. Results show once enough coworkers weigh in, and names are never shown.
- Wevree does not do scheduling, time clocks or payroll. Built for teams of 4 or more.
- English, Spanish and Korean.
One Wevree customer with about 30 staff went from losing 2 to 3 people a month to about 1 every 3 months.
Checklist if you already pay for a scheduler
- Schedules post early and swaps are under control
- Time clock and overtime alerts work
- You still cannot name who carries the shifts you miss
- You want coworker input, not only manager notes
- You will not replace the scheduler, only add a team-quality view
- Staff can finish a Round on a phone in a few minutes
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to replace Homebase or 7shifts with Wevree?
No. Keep your scheduler. Homebase and 7shifts are strong at schedules, time clocks, messaging and payroll add-ons. Wevree does none of those jobs. It sits next to them and shows how coworkers rate each other's work.
What can scheduling apps tell me about my team?
Who was scheduled, who clocked in, who was late, who swapped, and often labor cost versus sales. Some add shift surveys or shout-outs. They do not show how coworkers experienced working with each person on the shifts you missed.
What do Homebase and 7shifts cost?
Checked November 6, 2026: Homebase Basic is free for one location up to 10 employees; Essentials is $30 per location per month. 7shifts Comp is free for one location up to 15 employees; paid plans are priced per location (see 7shifts pricing). Confirm current prices on each site.
Is 7shifts Engage the same as coworker ratings?
No. 7shifts Engage tracks attendance trends, post-shift surveys and shout-outs inside the 7shifts platform, and needs 7punches or a supported POS labor integration. It is manager-facing performance and feedback. Wevree is anonymous coworker ratings on Topics you pick, separate from the schedule.
When should I add a team-quality tool next to my scheduler?
When you already have schedules and punch times under control, but you still cannot tell who carries the shifts you miss, who coworkers trust, or why good people leave while the schedule still looks full.
